the going gets rough

had a really tough run today...i have to remember that this happens...not all runs feel super great and that you are accomplishing the best miles of your life...and that not all long runs need to be at marathon goal pace...and that sometimes even when you are having a tough day your average can turn out ok...

anyway had a hard time getting through 17 miles today...the last 3 were really hard...like harder than i any run that i can recall as of late...i know that my legs are tired...i did a lot this week...rode twice...ran my usual amount..swam three times...but really...it should not have been as hard as it felt...

went out alone for a quick 4 before meeting up with the T3 group just before 8...got to do 7 with elizabeth...it is always nice to have a friend to stick with during the long run...the last 6 i did on my own...i could tell i was dragging coming in from our seven...and i knew that the last part was going to be hard...and i knew that i needed to get out of my own head...and talk in a positive way but that just wasn't happening...

shin was tight on the first four...then chilled out for the rest of the run...but saturday morning i woke up to a tight glute...that continued for the run...and got really tight towards the end...then got a side stitch about three miles to go...i'm telling you i was a mess...guess it's time i carry my electrolytes again...

it was a mental challenge as well as a physical one...i kept saying "well this just shows you that you need to re-think your goals for this race" blah blah blah...no i don't...i just need a really good massage...some g and t's made by my dad...the best bar tender on the planet...and some time in the kitchen with mom...and some easy runs in the bitter cold...eek

hang in there Jess. sometimes we learn as much or more from the tougher runs, than the ones that are easy. (easy being a relative term of course)

as you said a g&t and massage and it will all be good.

You still rock in my book! And I think you know the ticket to feeling like yourself on the trails again - you laid it all out. Glad we could run together today - in fact, I'm always glad to run with you! Have a great trip...we'll miss you!
