the first day

i had a very excellent first day of the year after a very mellow new years eve...could not have asked for a better one...j and i went to a pot luck for new years eve and as the rest of the guests went off to a party...we went home...and went to bed...we were awakened at 12.00 with a massive amount of fireworks going off down town and in our neighborhood...i was glad to wake up Jan 1 09 not at all hung over...and ready to ride...

elizabeth and i met up for a ride out on bee caves from south mopac...we figured that the route wouldn't be too populated since it was the first of the year...we were right...it was a little chilly but the sun was shining and we warmed up quickly...kept it steady out there on those hills...working it when we could...and taking advantage of the downhill sections...a very nice 2 hour ride...

home for some lunch and a good clean of the house...while j was out in the still under construction studio space building cabinets for it...there is a lot of really great wood out in the pile that we keep building things out of...now we have a table and three window boxes/seats/storage areas for the studio...and some shelves...all made by j and all ready to be put in place when we start working on the finish work...

in the afternoon i headed over to barton springs to meet elizabeth for a swim...she was trying out a wetsuit for the first time...all seemed to go well...it fit her well...and made her wicked fast in the water...not like she needed more speed there...but the pool was packed with all kinds of people not swimming for exercise...and many snorkeling fin wearing people...so we decided a half mile was good for the day...

for dinner i made julia child's coq au vin ...always delicious...with some roasted potatoes and a big green salad...we watched a really great movie about a professor that finds a couple living in his apartment and he is totally changed by his experiences with them...a very nice first day of the year.

Thanks again, Jess, for all of the wetsuit help! And for helping make New Year's Day so great by showing up to ride, too...yeah for reliability:) As for the speed in the water...got to milk that for all that it's worth because I'll be needing it big time to make sure I make the bike cut-off in CDA!!!
